Hello,

I was on Methotrexate but had to stop 6 weeks ago as I had a mouth full of ulcers and a very sore throat. I am still in the same state and wonder if anyone else has experienced this for as long a period of time?

I did not think the Mtx was doing much for me but I know now that it was as I have been in agony for the past 5 weeks. The Rheumy nurse wants me to try Penicillamine instead but my gp does not want me to take anything until my mouth is better - I have a referral to see someone about this.

I am due to fly out to Australia to visit my son in 5 weeks time and at the moment I don't feel fit enough to travel. Between pain, exhaustion, ash clouds and BA strikes I wonder if we will ever get there!

Any hints/advice would be much appreciated.

Love

Karen

you live near one (like hollend&barret) and ask if they have anything that

would help. Hope you feel better soon

Hi Karen,

My daughter gets a lot of mouth ulcers and swears by Oraldene mouthwash, she says it really helps the pain.
Hope you can get yours cleared up soon.

Love, Doreen xx

Hi,

It does sound like a reaction to the MTX, mouth ulcers were one of my side effects too whilst on the meds...

If you have been off it a while and they're not clearing up perhaps you should check with the Doc before flying to Oz?

Love,

Amanda

Hi Karen,

I'm Lorna, I am on MTX I feel tired at times when I take it but otherwise ok. Like Doreen says Oraldene is a very good mouthwash and does help mouth and throat conditions, I do hope you get sorted out soon with medication. Hopefully you will get away to see your son in Australia have a wonderful holiday and a safe journey. Take care Lorna x

Thank you everyone. I will try Oraldine and salt water. I will be seeing my gp as soon as I have seen a consultant about the ulcers which hopefully will be very soon.

Have any of you used Special Assistance at the Airport? What sort of things are on offer?

Take care

Karen

Hi Karen

Sorry you're having a bad time with mouth ulcers. You could try gargling with Tea Tree oil (diluted).
